About Kumusta Pusa™
Kumusta Pusa™ is a children’s literacy and cultural storytelling project rooted in kindness, community, and Filipino values.
Co-created by Dr. Marlon P. Rimando, Kumusta Pusa began not as a commercial venture, but as a response—to children and families navigating uncertainty, displacement, and loss, and to a deeper need for stories that comfort, affirm identity, and bring people together. What started as a single character quickly became a shared language of care.
At her heart, Kumusta Pusa is about saluhan—the Filipino value of lifting one another up together. Through playful stories, gentle lessons, and joyful illustrations, Kumusta Pusa helps children explore empathy, literacy, cultural pride, and emotional well-being. Her world is intentionally inclusive, community-centered, and grounded in lived experience.
Now in her second year, Kumusta Pusa continues to grow—not by chasing trends, but by showing up. In classrooms, libraries, festivals, and family spaces. In moments of learning, healing, and connection. Each book is designed to be read aloud, shared, and passed from hand to hand, reinforcing the idea that stories are not just consumed—they are carried.

Did you know?
There’s no native pre-colonial word for “Hello” in any of the Philippine languages like Tagalog, Ilokano, or Bisaya. Instead, greetings are traditionally expressed as questions or phrases showing concern or respect. It reflects a Filipino worldview of shared identity, empathy, and relational warmth.
That’s why Kumusta Pusa means “How are you, Cat?” And, Kumusta Kuting means "How are you, Kitten?"
The polite way to say it would be:
“Pusa, kumusta po?”
We chose Kumusta Pusa as a fun and friendly greeting—just like saying “How’s it going?” or “Howzit?” when meeting someone new.
Want to try it yourself? You can say:
“Kumusta ka na?” (How are you?)
or
“Kumusta ka po?” (How are you? — said politely)
